Pothole Repair
Eventually even the best maintained asphalt will have a failure. The key is rapid identification and repair to keep the problem from getting worse. All too often, small repairs are overlooked and only to lead to bigger more expensive issues. Just like Crack Sealing, repairs need to be made quickly!
Potholes Suck. Don’t Let them Win
Cutting out the affected area with a saw and filling quickly will keep the issue from growing. If identified and dealt with early, often only the surface course needs to be repaired.
If deeper and larger repairs are needed, do not skimp on doing it correctly. Remove and replace everything! Long term gains will outweigh any short-term pains.
Making sure your contractor treats and seals all edges will help mitigate further damage through water infiltration.
WHAT CAUSES POTHOLES?
Potholes form when water is allowed to penetrate the pavement surface, forming quicker in the winter when water can freeze and thaw regularly.
Water expands as it freezes, it is very powerful and damaging. Water weakens the pavement and soils underneath. When traffic drives over the affected area, chunks of material will begin to loosen and be forced out.
